Connecting Camera to the Mobile Device

Locate the camera's password to connect to your mobile device via wifi

For the Insta360 One X3 Camera

Before you get started you'll need to ensure:

  • For iOS, You’re using OpenSpace iOS mobile App v7.6.0 or greater - grab the latest version on the App Store here.

  • For Android, You’re using OpenSpace App v7.6.0 - grab the latest version on the Google Play store here.

  • The Camera Firmware is upgraded to v1.0.35. See here to upgrade instructions directly from Insta360.

1) Power on and configure the camera

  • Hold down the power button for 3 seconds to power it on.

2) Connect the camera to your mobile device

  • Within OpenSpace mobile app, Select 360 Video icon

  • Select the camera brand (in this case Insta360)

If the camera is turned OFF, you will notice a below screen to switch ON the camera and an option to find Power button on the camera -

  • Once the camera is powered ON, it will show camera detected screen for a user to connect

  • User can then select an option to allow location services

  • Once connected, the app will show "Camera Connected" for users to start capturing with OS app

3) Once connected, you should be able to use the X3 like any other camera you've used with the OS.


For the Insta360 OneRS 1-Inch Camera*

Before you get started ensure:

  • For iOS, You’re using OpenSpace iOS mobile App v5.5.5 or greater - grab the latest version on the App Store here.

  • For Android, You’re using OpenSpace App v5.5.5 or greater - grab the latest version on the Google Play store here.

  • The One RS 1-inch camera is on firmware v2.0 or greater. See here for upgrade instructions directly from Insta360

  1. With the above in place, follow these steps to connect the OpenSpace app to your camera:

    1) Power on and configure the camera

    • Hold down the power button for 3 seconds to power it on.

    • Swipe from the top down to open the camera menu.

    • Swipe from right to left to find the camera settings menu and tap the settings Icon

    • Tap "WiFi Settings" to ensure WiFi is turned on. There are 2 options to choose - “Auto on/off” or “Always on”. It's recommended to select the “Always On” option.

    2) Connect the camera to your mobile device

    • Navigate to your devices Wifi Settings to connect to a specific hotspot (see here for help with WiFi settings on iPhone or iPad and here for Android).

    • Ensure Wifi is turned on and look for the Wifi SSID of your camera device (the SSID will be similar to One RS XXXXXX).

    • Enter Password - 88888888 (the number “8”, entered eight times).

    • Within the OpenSpace App, you should see “Camera Connected” highlighted on the project screen for connectivity confirmation.

    3) Once connected, you should be able to use the One RS 1-inch like any other camera you're used to with OS

Note: The ONE RS 1-Inch 360 Edition is different from the One RS 360 Edition.


For the Insta360 One X Camera

  1. Turn on Insta360 ONE X by holding down the larger button for 2 seconds

  2. Wait 5 seconds

  3. Press smaller button twice to see the settings “gear” icon > click Large button

  4. Click large button three times till you see wifi icon

    1. Confirm Wi-Fi: On

  5. Press small button twice to highlight “Wifi Password” > click Large button

  6. You should see your password that you’ll enter into your mobile device or tablet WiFi settings

    1. In some instances the password is: 88888888 (the number "8", entered eight times)

For the Insta360 One X2 Camera

  1. Turn on Insta360 ONE X2 by pressing the side power button

  2. Wait 5 seconds

  3. Wait for the wifi icon to appear

  4. You should see your password that you’ll enter into your mobile device or tablet WiFi settings

    1. In some instances the password is: 88888888 (the number "8", entered eight times)

For the Insta360 One R Camera

  1. Turn on Insta360 ONE R by holding down the smaller button with the power icon

  2. Wait 5 seconds

  3. Swipe down to get to the menu and then scroll right go to the settings “gear” icon

    1. Confirm Wi-Fi: On

  4. In your mobile device or tablet WiFi settings it may require you to enter a password

    1. In some instances the password is: 88888888 (the number "8", entered eight times)

For the Ricoh Theta Z1

Note- Only the Z1 version is compatible with OpenSpace Video currently.

To connect your camera to the Ricoh Theta camera:

1. Download the OpenSpace.ai Construction app to your mobile device.

2. Turn on the camera.

2. Press the wireless button to switch the wireless LAN function to the ‘access point mode’.

3. Navigate to the wifi settings on your phone or tablet & select the Ricoh Theta wifi network which look something like: THETAN00001017

4. The wifi password is the numbers located on the bottom of the camera, highlighted in the image below. Note this includes the two numbers on the first line and all of the numbers on the second line.

5. Open the OpenSpace app on your mobile device to see that you're connected, and start capturing!



For the Garmin VIRB

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the camera

  2. On your phone, go to Settings, then Wi-Fi

    1. Select the camera’s Wi-Fi name, then enter the password. If you have ordered your camera from us, the password is always 'openspace' - all lower case.

  3. (This is optional) The wifi network name always contains the word "VIRB" in it - if you still need to find it exactly, then do the following:
    Press the arrow keys to select "Wireless"
    Press OK
    Press the arrow keys to select "Wifi"
    Press OK


For the Ricoh Theta V

  1. Turn on the power for the camera.

  2. Press the wireless button to turn the wireless LAN function on.

    • The wireless lamp flashes.

  3. Display the Wi-FiTM settings of the smartphone.

  4. Select the SSID of the camera from the network list and enter the password.

    • The serial number printed at the bottom of the camera is the same as the SSID and password.
      The SSID is “THETA + Serial number indicated by (B) + .OSC” (in this case “THETAYL00001017.OSC”). The password is the numbers indicated by (A) (in this case “00001017”).

    • The password can be changed from the smartphone.

    • The password is initialized by pressing and holding the wireless button while the power is on. The power turns off automatically at this time.

    • When the wireless LAN connection is complete, the wireless lamp lights.


Tips & Tricks:

  • You only need to pair your phone with your camera once.

  • No need to toggle with any of the other camera settings - we ship it to you preset.

  • Do not use the red switch on the side of the camera to start your capture or turn the camera on, as it does not send all of the metadata needed to localize your capture.
