Overview
Overhead captures allow you to document the spaces above the standard line of sight during your 360° video walk. This feature is particularly valuable during preconstruction for recording existing conditions such as MEP rough-ins, structural elements, and above-ceiling spaces, as well as for tracking the installation of overhead work throughout construction. OpenSpace automatically identifies and processes these elevated capture points—no additional setup or tagging required.

How to create overhead captures
To capture imagery above the standard ceiling height during your site walk, follow these steps:
- Attach your 360° camera to a monopod or selfie stick.
- Walk your normal capture path as you would for a standard site capture.
- At any location where you want overhead coverage, raise the monopod above head height.
- Hold the monopod steady while raised to minimize blur.
- Continue walking your capture path. Overhead shots are processed automatically and integrate seamlessly with your standard captures.
How to view overhead captures
Once processed, overhead captures are available in three locations within your project:
- Capture path: Overhead captures appear directly on your capture path alongside standard captures.
- Mini map: Overhead capture points are displayed on the mini map for quick spatial reference.
- Sheets view: Overhead captures are accessible from the sheets view for floor-level browsing.
How to manage overhead capture visibility
You can show or hide overhead captures in each view independently:
- Capture path: Toggle overhead captures off in the Capture path settings.
- Mini map: Use the mini map filters to show or hide overhead captures.
Sheets view: Use the sheets view filters to show or hide overhead captures.
FAQ
Do I need to tag or configure anything to create overhead captures?
No. OpenSpace automatically detects and processes elevated capture points. Simply raise your monopod above head height at the locations you want to document.
Where can I view overhead captures after they’re processed?
Overhead captures are available on the capture path, the mini map, and in the sheets view.
Can I dismiss a false positive or manually flag a missed overhead capture?
Not at this time. There is currently no way to dismiss a specific false positive or manually flag a missed result.
Is this feature available on the GSA server?
No. Overhead captures are not currently available on the GSA server.
Can I hide overhead captures from my project views?
Yes. You can toggle the visibility of overhead captures from Capture path settings on the capture path, and from the filter controls in both the mini map and sheets view.
