Overview
BIM sheet alignment is a user-friendly feature that enables you to quickly align your OpenSpace sheets to your BIM coordinate space. All sites with an active OpenSpace BIM+ subscription have automatic access to this tool. Note that for both OpenSpace Capture and OpenSpace BIM+, OpenSpace performs BIM alignment for all sheets that have at least one capture, meaning you’re not required to use self-serve BIM alignment in order to use BIM Compare.

How to complete a sheet alignment
- Click into Project Settings and navigate to the last tab BIM+.
- Select Align.
- In the upper left corner, select a floor to align from the dropdown. In the dropdown you can also see which floors have captures and which have already been aligned.
- Select Add point to begin aligning the first pair (A) of points.
- Tip: Use a section plane to find the correct level in the model that is associated with the floor drawing you are aligning.
Section plane tool:
- In the left window pane, double click to select a given point on the sheet.
- Tip: You can start on the model side first if you prefer.
- Tip: Select an element and open the properties panel in the bottom left corner (as shown in the screenshot below) to make sure you’re aligning the sheet to the corresponding floor in the model.
- Move over to the model and select that same point within the model. The cursor will “stick” to edges and corners on hover to aid in point selection.
- Once points A are selected, click “Add point” for Point B, and repeat steps 4-6 to select points B.
- Tip: The alignment result will be best if you select points A and B as far apart from one another as possible.
- Tip: You can turn on the Sheet overlay tool to check your alignment accuracy as you go. The sheet will appear once you have set two points, and its position will adjust dynamically if you adjust the point positions.
- Click View project to open BIM Compare in a new tab at the newly aligned floor.
- Tip: When aligning a sheet to the BIM, the camera height is automatically set. If you need to adjust camera height needs in BIM Compare, you can do so using the arrow toggle:
- Click Exit alignment in the upper left corner to return to the BIM+ tab.
