How to use virtual control points (VCPs) in OpenSpace Air
Virtual control points (VCPs) are a method for aligning different orthomosaic images produced in OpenSpace Air to the same location. Using VCPs eliminates the need for expensive surveying equipment traditionally used to capture ground control points. This process ensures that orthomosaic images from different flights align correctly with each other. Correct alignment allows measurements to transition seamlessly from one flight to the next without requiring readjustment.
Adding virtual control points
- Select the flight: First, select the flight you wish to align.
- Access the menu: Click the dotted menu at the top left of your screen.
- Add VCPs: Select Add virtual control points.
- Zoom in: Start by zooming in to improve your accuracy.
- Select points on base map: Find and select an easily identifiable point on the base map layer; this point will be labeled as A1.
- Select points on orthomosaic: Select the same point on your orthomosaic image; this point will be labeled A2.
- Repeat for B1 and B2: Do the same for B1 and B2, respectively.
Verifying and processing alignment
- Verify points: Click Verify points at the top right to gauge the accuracy of your alignment.
- Check alignment: OpenSpace Air will overlay the orthomosaic image over the base layer.
- Use the opacity slider to get a clear view of the base layer.
- Switch between the base layer and the orthomosaic image to see how they align to each other.
- Compare other layers (optional): You can also select other flights as comparison layers against the base map from the Drone capture layers drop-down.
- Enable or disable any layers that you want to either display or hide to compare how they align against the orthomosaic image to which you just added your VCPs.
- Process alignment:
- Select Done at the top right.
- Click Process to initiate the alignment.
- The changes will be processed, and your results will display in a few minutes.
